About Bill Yates | CYPIX
Bill Yates has been photographing since he was given his first camera as a kid just before a flight in his father's Cessna 195 "Tail-dragger." Thus began a lifelong fascination with views from above not only as a fixed -wing pilot, but also as member of a U.S. Naval Aviation squadron.
Bill graduated from the University of South Florida with a B.A. in Art and Photography and received his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree in Photography from Rhode Island School of Design. He studied with Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind and Garry Winogrand, among other master fine art photographers.
Bill had a one man show at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and has exhibited at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, as well as other museums and galleries throughout the United States. His photographs are included in the collection of the Corcoran Gallery of Art and are also represented in numerous corporate and private collections. Bill was Curatorial Consultant of Photography to the Corcoran, and Director of the University Gallery at New Mexico State University.
Bill is based in North Florida and travels extensively shooting aerial, location and panoramic photography for regional and national corporate clients and non-profits as well as commissioned work. He has recently flown the full length of the St. Johns River (310 miles) twice by helicopter shooting digital stills and 360 degree aerial spherical panoramas as part of a web and book project for the St. Johns Riverkeeper. He continues to produce fine art photography having recently exhibited through a grant from the Community Foundation at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens, Jacksonville.
